Q: How many more times do you want to fight?
A: I would like to fight at least once. One opponent I’d like to fight is Kazushi Sakuraba.Q: What did you think of Sakuraba’s performance tonight?
A: He has talent and has good skills. Sakuraba has never lost a fight by being outskilled. His losses were usually due to him being outmuscled or outsized. He didn’t have that kind of disadvantage in this fight so he was able to get an easy win by using his skills.
Q: What motivated you to return?
A: I’ve been away from the ring but have been training and looking for opportunities. It’s just that I couldn’t get an agreement with promoters.
Q: Is there any other opponent besides Kazushi Sakuraba that you have in mind?
A: I can’t tell you that. I am going to have to talk to the promoters.
Q: When do you think your next fight will take place?
A: There are talks about holding it in the Dynamite show but I haven’t inked the deal yet so nothing’s set in stone.
Q: What do you do to stay in shape?
A: I have fun with training. And I keep myself in shape by surfing, hiking etc. I also have fun sparring with friends. And I eat right and take some supplements as well.
Q: Many Gracies have lost against Sakuraba. What are your thoughts on this?
A: It’s a „god-given” opportunity, so if things go well with the promoters, I’d like to represent the Gracie family and fight Sakuraba.
Q: What about Masakatsu Funaki?
A: I already beat Funaki, so I’m not that interested in a rematch. I’m interested in fighting Sakuraba because he beat my brothers. But I’m going to have to talk to the promoters first. I’m going to fight whoever they put in front of me.
Q: What do you think of Minowaman, who defeated your pupil Kevin Casey?
A: Minowaman used his experience well to get the win. The referee came to me during the break and complained that Kevin was making the fight boring but I didn’t agree. Kevin hadn’t overcome the jetlag and was very tired up until fight day. I suggested that he strike a little more after the end of round 1, but he got caught while making a mistake during the exchange. It was more of Kevin handing the win than Minowaman winning. Kevin didn’t do badly, but it was Minowaman’s day.
