Patru noi centuri rosu cu negru in BJJ

Unul dintre cei mai apreciati instructori in BJJ ester Roy Harris (cn sub Joie Moreira). Iata ce spune intr-unul din articolele sale despre viteza, in special in legatura cu diferenta dintre gi si noi gi:

„Regardless of whether a person grapples with or without a gi, the determining factors (of speed) will always be grips and position. People move faster and more often because they do not understand the subtlety ofthe  correct use of grips and precise positioning of one’s body.

Needing „quicker judgment” for no gi grappling happens because your partner engages and  disengages quickly. However, because there is minimal pressure with this game, the threat level is usually lower (with lower skill levels) The higher the threat, the higher the skill level.

Let me share with you an experience from my past:

Several years ago, a brown belt, with ten years of experience, from another Jiu Jitsu school came by my school to „test” himself. Instead of wanting to learn from me, he kept requesting to „spar” with me. He and I engaged in sparring for about 20 minutes. All I did was position myself to neutralize most of his attacks. Then, I waited for an opening and passed his guard with precision, tightness and slowness. When I had finished passing his guard, I applied the kimura and made him tap. He wanted to go again, so we began grappling again.

Again, i used position to neutralize his assaults. I waited for a specific position and then I passed his guard using the same method as the first time. Again, I finished by applying a kimura.

This happened another four times (same exact guard pass – same finishing technique) !

Finally, we got to the instructional portion of the lesson. I taught him some basics – which he sorely needed. He wanted to grappling again, so I obliged him. And again, history repeated itself. I put him on his back, passed his guard using the same basic guard passed and then finished with a kimura.

While this gentleman grappled with me like a Tazmanian Devil on speed, I remained constant with my grandpa / geezer speed! At the end of our grappling session, he told me he had never experienced grappling like that. I told him, „It’s all about where a person places their body, as well as how they use the grips.”

High level grappling is about playing the percentages. It has very little to do with speed!
